Myst III: Exile
By Orb and Jen
Edanna
To get to Edanna, go to the tusk tower with the birdlike symbol
over it. This is the one where you had to puff up the red growths
to make a bridge. Solve the puzzle by moving the knobs as follows:

Then use the linking book to go to the age Edanna.
This age is super-confusing as far as trying to make your way
around. We have tried to be very specific about the turns and
steps you need to make. Occasionally, when we indicate that you
go forward some number of steps, you have to turn slightly to
the right or the left to continue forward. We have only indicated
turns that are around 90 degrees or better.
You start out facing a red flower. Look through the red flower,
then back out of the closeup. Turn to the left of the flower,
go forward, turn right, and look at the back of the flower. Turn
around and follow the path toward the spiral. Go forward six steps,
turn right, then step forward and look out and down. Continue
on the path toward the spiral, which turns out to be a red leaf
elevator. Step on it and get transported up.
Turn left, take a step forward, and watch the bird animation.
Go forward one more step and look through the red flower. Back
out, turn around, go two steps forward, turn left, go forward
two more steps, turn left again, go forward two more steps, and
watch the new bird animation. Turn toward the right and slightly
down, and notice there's what looks like an embryonic sac. Click
on it, then turn right and take a step forward. Notice a red leaf
elevator that looks closed up. Continue forward on the path three
steps, turn to the left, and take five steps up the stairs.
Turn slightly to the left and click on the flower to open it,
then look through the flower. Exit the closeup, then turn around
and take a step forward toward the fan-leafed plant. Turn left,
click on the nub in the base, and the plant moves; behind it is
the J'nanin linking book. Turn around, return to the flower again,
click to open it again, look through it again, and note the light
in the center of the viewer. Lock it on the sac you saw earlier
in the lower part of the picture (just above the thing that looks
like a satellite dish). When you have positioned it correctly,
you should hear a sound. Watch the animation of the red leaf elevator
opening up.
Turn around and go back the way you came, down the steps, to
the leaf elevator (eight steps in total), turn to the right, step
onto it, and ride down. Turn right, go forward three steps, turn
left, go forward, and watch the fish animation. Turn left, step
forward, turn left, and go forward five steps. Click on the pod
that's up and to the right, then click in the center of it, and
watch it fill with fluid and what looks like a small stingray.
Turn to the right. There is a lower path to the right of where
you entered; go forward and pick up the pages. Continue forward,
turn right, go forward two steps, turn right, go forward, turn
left, go forward four steps, turn right, forward three more steps,
curving to the right the whole time. There is an orange lamp in
front of you. Pull the ball at the end of the cord coming out
of it. A leaf path opens up. Go forward one step, turn to the
right, and look downward. Pull the handle; nothing happens. Turn
back around to the left and take another step in the direction
you were headed, turn right, look up, and notice there is a turquoise
bar/swing. Click on it. Move a little to the right, until your
cursor becomes a small image of the base of the swing. When that
happens, click and you will jump to a landing across the way.
Go forward, turn left, and click on the handle. Go forward under
the cage, click on the pink berries, and one will drop. Click
on it to roll it out a little bit. Turn around, go forward two
steps, and you will go for a slide. Turn right, go forward (curving
around to the right) four steps, back to where the inoperable
handle is (was), and watch the squee come out to eat the berry.
Pull the handle, and now the trap will drop, missing the creature.
(You can try this once without rolling the berry out of the way
of the trap; the trap will catch the squee, and it will have a
fit. You can then go back and release it and repeat the berry
process from the blue swing step.) When the trap misses the squee,
the creature becomes startled and runs back over the bridge you
came over initially, and as it calls out, the sound causes the
berries in the bridge to enlarge, thus destroying the bridge.
You may now use the swing on that side.
Go forward and click on the swing, then click where the bridge
was (to the left of the swing) to swing across. Turn left, go
forward, turn to the right, and click on the handle to light the
light and open the bridge.
Don't cross the bridge yet; instead turn right, go forward, turn
right again, go forward, turn left, go forward six steps. Turn
to the left to look at the big red bird you saw in the beginning;
now it's inside a pouch. Turn right (from the bird), almost all
the way back around the way you came, and go forward nine steps
along the path. Turn to the right and look at the painting. Go
forward toward the painting, turn right, and click on the pod
to the lower right of the painting. The stingray and fluid move
into it. Now you can see the painting even more clearly.
Turn around, go forward to return to the path, continue on the
path (to the right; there are two possible directions here) two
steps, and note there is a blue orchid on the right. Continue
forward on the path for three steps, turn left, and step forward
to the bulbous blue orchid. Click for a closeup. Exit, go forward
three steps, turn left, and click for a closeup to look through
this last (third) blue orchid. Turn it so its light shines on
the second blue orchid (in a sort of a V between two branches).
Return to that blue orchid (the second one) and look through it,
training the light you see on the rolled-up leaf elevator next
to the ocean and below the thick branch (toward the left of the
view field). You'll hear the bridge open.
Go back to where the stingray and painting are, just before where
the path curves around it (six steps). Turn right and find the
stairs leading down. Go forward four steps, turn right, click
on the empty pod, and watch the stingray arrive.
Go forward twice on the path (to the left of the stingray), turn
right, go forward two steps, turn right, go forward. There is
a viewer; click on the button beneath it and watch the cutscene.
It's Saavedro, same shit, different age. Turn around, go forward,
turn right, go forward four steps, turn left, and cross the leaf
bridge (three steps). Turn right, go forward up the toadstool
ladder (five steps). Here you should see the pod with the stingray
in it across the way. Go left, behind the red flower. Look through
it, noting it is fixed on the stingray. Exit the closeup and turn
to the left to continue down the path. Go forward, turn right,
go forward, turn left, go forward three steps, and there is a
fourth blue orchid. Click on it for a closeup, and center the
viewer on the red flower.
Go back to the third blue orchid by turning left, moving forward
ten steps, turning left, taking three steps across the bridge,
turning right, moving forward six steps, turning left, moving
forward five steps, turning left, and moving forward eight steps.
Retrain the light you see on the very first blue orchid. You will
be rewarded with a great animation: the sac holding the stingray
pops, and this sends electricity back up the cords that go from
where the stingray is now up to the sac the big red bird is in,
opening it, and allowing the bird to fly away. Once this is over,
retrain the light once again on the second flower.
Go back to the toadstool ladder, turning around and going forward
eight steps. Then turn right, go forward four steps, turn right,
go forward two steps, turn right, go forward two steps, turn left,
go forward four steps, then turn left and cross the leaf bridge
(three steps). Turn right, go forward up the toadstool ladder
(three steps). Turn around, look up and to the right, and there
is a log opening up there. No, look again, really, there is. I
know it's hard to see, but I'm not lying to you, I swear. This
whole section is really easy to get turned around in, so if you
start feeling lost, you can click around a bit to reorient yourself
and familiarize yourself with the surroundings. But finally, you
need to end up in front of this entrance and go in.
Go forward two steps, turn around and pick up the pages, turn
back around and go forward three steps, to the other end of the
log. Turn right, then go forward two steps. There's another turquoise
swing. Click on it, then click forward. You are dropped below.
Look down from the swing, and there is a path in front of you
with an immediate fork in it. The path to the right takes you
back up. You'll want to choose the left path.
Go forward once, turn right, click on the moth once for a closeup
and then again to make it fly away. Turn back toward the left,
then go forward six more steps down the same path. Here there
is a fork. Turn to the left, go forward two steps, turn right,
go forward four steps, and click on the red center of the plant.
Turn around, go back four steps to the fork. Go forward four (back
the way you came, not down the other fork), turn left, and there
is a round red plant on the ground to the left. Click on it and
watch what it does. Turn back toward the right, take a step forward,
turn right, go forward three steps to a much bigger round red
plant (look down and slightly to the right). Click on it, and
it expels a powder that drives off the gnats over the giant blue
pod in front of you.
Turn to the right, go forward three steps, turn left, go forward
three steps, turn left, go forward two steps, turn right, go forward
two steps, turn left, and go forward down the path nine steps,
to another blue orchid. Train its light on the top of the giant
blue pod where the gnats now are in the viewer, and watch the
pod open up. With the light in that position, click to exit the
closeup. Return down the path nine steps, to the fork.
Turn right, go forward two steps, turn left, go forward five
steps, to the opening in the blue log. Go inside, turn left, step
forward, pick up the pages, go forward three more steps, go up
one step. Click on the moving gnats to rise up to the open area
of the first blue pod (which you are now inside). Turn around,
click on the center wood between the two purple pods, then click
on the center again to make the pod expel powder. The big red
bird will now fly in, pick up the inside/skeletal area of the
pod you are now in, and carry you and it to her nest. Again, another
great cutscene.
Once you are at the nest, click to the left of the big red bird
outside its nest to exit the pod remains, watch the animation,
collect the next symbol, and use the linking book above and to
the left to return to J'nanin.
Once back in Saavedro's tower, put your new page on the blue
platform and watch the cutscene.
