Disney's Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse

Preliminary Notes

  • This walkthrough is concerned only with collecting the mirror pieces. There are "souvenirs" and minigames, but none of these are necessary for game completion.
  • Most of the time, things that cost multiple stars to do the first time will only cost a single star each subsequent time.
  • You can do most of the parts of this game in any order, as long as you have keys to open locked doors. I have tried to minimize any backtracking through the game.
  • There are lots of things you can click on with the gray hand cursor just for entertainment purposes. All required actions, though, will show the white hand cursor (or the pink, in one instance).

Starting the Game

After the opening cutscene, the pointing finger cursor is aimed at the door on the left of the screen. Click the A button to make your own cursor appear, then move it to the door indicated by the hand and click twice to open the door and enter. Mickey comes back into the same room through the other blue door. Now the hand points at the door Mickey just came through; go in through that door. Mickey gets a star container—click on it twice to pick it up.

Now click on the pink door. You will get an indicator that it costs one star to enter the door. Click on the door again, and you will be presented with a screen, "Trick?" Click on the thumb up to accept. The ghost will emerge and drop a key. Pick it up by clicking on it twice. Click on the pink door enough times to unlock it and open it.

The Room Inside the Mirror

After the cutscene, look at the mirror pieces with the magnifying glass cursor. Here's the part where they get scattered. The cutscene that follows will show you the location of three of the mirror pieces; remember these for later.

Here we have a door with a blue spiral on it, the pink door Mickey came in through, and another, plain door. The blue door is one-way into the room, only from other locations in the house, and the pink door just goes back into that starting room, which you never need to see again. So go through the plain door.

Room with a Hole in the Wall

Click on the star that's in the middle of the room to refill your star holder. Click on the green cabinet. Point to Mickey and click to get the Trick screen and spend your star. Pick up the key.

Click on the hole in the wall until Mickey puts his head in and retrieves a mirror piece.

Click on the door on the same wall as the hole.

Hallway with Green Carpet Runner

Pick up the star closest to you, the player, to move Mickey to the other side of the hallway. A mirror piece will be revealed under the corner of the carpet runner. Click on the door at the end of the hallway, behind Mickey. The ghost emerges. Click on Mickey to spend a star; Mickey will stumble and move the carpet off the mirror piece. Pick up the mirror piece.

Enter the locked door, the one further from the window on the wall with two doors.

Piggy Bank Room

Click on the star container light fixture three times to knock it down, then go over and pick it up. Pick up the coin—your first inventory item. Click on the piggy bank enough times that Mickey will pick it up twice and look inside and see a gear. After he puts it down, your inventory bag will be flashing; click on the pig again to open your inventory. Select the coin to have Mickey deposit it. The gear grows. You will need to find two more coins to grow the gear big enough to get out.

Leave the room. Back in the hallway, choose the other door on the same wall as the Piggy Bank room.

Candle and Bed Room

Click on the candle. To light it, you have to push the A button rapidly and repeatedly until the flame grows big enough to stay lit. Mickey's shadow will have evil red eyes—click on the eyes once and spend a star, then click on Mickey's feet and spend another star. (If you do this wrong and need more stars, go back to the Piggy Bank room. There will be a star that you can click on, plus you can get another one by clicking on the light three times and knocking it down; this second star only appears once.) If you do it right, you get another coin.

Click on the light switch to turn on the light. A key will be revealed in the spider web over the bed, but you will need more stars to get the key. Go ahead and return to the Piggy Bank Room and deposit your coin. You can pick up the star that's in there, too.

Go back out into the hallway and enter through the double doors past the bunched-up carpet runner.

Foyer

Click on the vase on a table near the middle left of the screen, enough times to make Mickey get the key. You will get a chance to spend a star, but you don't need to—you'll get the key either way.

Go to the vase on the other side of the mezzanine and take the flower.

Go down the stars and pick up the stars. Under the stairs is another star container; pick it up.

Click on the double doors opposite the base of the stairs, then click on the chandelier and spend two stars. Walk toward the door behind you and pick up another mirror piece.

Go back out through the double doors at the top of the stairs, out the door across the Alpine Picture hall, and in through the door at the right of the screen. You will be back in the Bed and Candle Room. Spend two stars on the bed to jump and get the key out of the spider web.

Go through the door next to the light switch.

TV Room and Train Rooms

Pick up the transparent Donald Duck on the sofa. This is a "souvenir." (These really aren't good for anything, but Mickey will do a happy dance every time he gets one.)

Go through the door with the broken wood at bottom. Pick up the stars, then go through the door on the other side of the room.

Cross the room to the rocking horse, then click on it, spend two stars, and knock down another mirror piece.

Click on the toy box to get a flashlight.

Pick up more stars until your three holders are full again. (You might need to leave the room and come back; in this part of the game the stars regenerate pretty readily.)

Click on the witch figurine and spend two stars to shrink Mickey. When you're small, you can pick up a whole bunch of stars; get enough to refill all of your containers. This is a good time to save.

Go up the little ramp to the train station. Click on the suitcase lying on the platform and spend a star on it. Once inside the train, the suitcase starts shaking—spend another star on it. Finally, spend your third star on Mickey to trip him and foil the haunted suitcase. You get another star holder.

The train ride takes Mickey back into the other train room. Go through the opening at the end of the platform to find yourself in the TV room again.

Go behind the TV and click on the plug.

This is another good time to save.

Go back into the first train room through the hole in the door. The ghost is now haunting the rubber ducky. Click enough times to make the duck start chasing you, then at the end of the case you have two choices. First is do nothing and let the duck hit you to turn big again.

Second choice is to spend a star on the cord that's hanging down, then spend another three stars on the airplane to do the flying minigame. (After the first time, just look at the cloud poster to play the minigame again..) This is not required; if you choose to do it you can get stars, and if you beat it you get an airplane souvenir.

Either way, Mickey gets big again.

Return to the Foyer, filling up your stars on the way as needed. Go down the stairs and through the door that's to the right of the stained glass windows.

Plain Hallway

In here you can click on each of the three pictures hanging on the wall to gradually open the window and get a star refill to fly in. This is a one-time-only star, though, so only use it if you need it.

Go through the door closest to the top of the screen.

Dining Room

Pick up the star container.

Sit in the chair at the table and spend two stars on the teapot. (You can spend one star on the char but if you do the chair will just jump out from under you and waste the star.) After Mickey drinks tea, sit in the chair again and spend another star on the teapot to get the ghost out of it. Leave the room and return and you can get a heart picture souvenir.

I believe all of this tea stuff is pointless and the only reason to come in here is for the star container. But it's fun. Anyway, go back into the Plain Hallway and into the door closest to the bottom left of the screen.

Kitchen

Make sure your stars are full. Take the butterfly souvenir that's hanging over the table.

Open the cabinet next to the window and click on all of the hanging cutlery to get it all swinging at the same time, then you will be offered a "trick" for three stars. Do it to get a mirror piece.

Click on the other cabinet and spend two stars on the sugar bowl to knock it down and get the third coin.

Piggy Bank Room

Go all the way back to the Piggy Bank Room and deposit your coin. Take the gear. If you leave the room and go back in, you can get the piggy bank souvenir.

Return to the kitchen, pass through, and unlock and go through the door next to the refrigerator.

X Marks the Spot Room

Nothing to do in here just yet, so go up the stairs, unlock the door, and go in.

Two Stools Room

Click on the far stool to pick it up, then click on the near stool to make a makeshift ladder. Mickey starts wobbling, you have to rotate the thumbstick on your controller a bunch of times to stabilize him. Then he will get a key.

Use the new key to unlock the door on the other side of the room. When you do this, a blue spiral door will be visible; if you go through any of these at any point in the game, you will be taken back to the room on the other side of Mickey's bedroom mirror. Bad idea! unless that's what you really want.

Many-Doored Hallway

Go through any of the doors except the one you just came through and the one that's locked, until five Mickeys come out.

I'm not sure if this randomizes or not, but for me it was the same Mickey both times I played. Click on the fourth Mickey in the line, then click on the left ear, the right ear, and then the nose to pull the ghost out and get a star container.

Since we don't have a key we can't continue here just yet. Go back to the foyer and through the door on the other side of the downstairs.

Storage Room

There's plenty to click on in here but nothing to do, so just go down the stairs.

Armor Room

Cross the room and click on the door on the other side. You will have to do the sword minigame, but only once and you can stink at it without losing anything but stars. Just steer Mickey, avoid obstacles, and pick up stars if you can. If not, don't worry about it. In fact, you can just sit back and watch if you don't want to play it.

At the end of the hallway, you can send Mickey right back into the minigame room, only this time there's no minigame and plenty o'stars for the picking up.

From now on, you can just open the doors at either end of the hallway. If you want to do the minigame again, click on the sword in the armor room and not the door.

Note: The Sword Chase Hallway always has a plentiful supply of stars for refill purposes.

Sleeping Beauty Room

Click on the awake, flower-holding Sleeping Beauty picture. Spend a star on it to pull the ghost out, then spend two stars on the shoes over Mickey's head. Take the key.

Click on the sleeping, flower-less Sleeping Beauty picture and use the flower on it. It will move aside and reveal a door. Go in.

Cave

Mickey will automatically use the flashlight. Just click near the bottom right of the screen to move to the next room. On the floor a star will flash. Click there to get a mirror piece.

Then click on the light spot to go out the other side of the cave.

Clockworks Room

Go up the stairs, out the door, and down to the base of the clock face. Pick up the key. Your stars should refill on your way down the steps; if not, go back to the Sword Chase Hallway and fill them up and come back here.

Go back into the Clockworks Room. Use your gear to replace the missing one, then go over to the big handle noted by Mickey. Click on it to start the clockworks and get a mirror piece.

Save here. Click on the handle again and spend a star on it. Mickey will take a ride through the clockworks. You will get a chance to spend stars on the minute hand of the clock to advance the time. Do it three times (6:00) and Mickey will ride the cuckoo far enough out to knock down a star holder.

Clock Tower Roof

Here you have two choices: You can either look at the rope between the towers or the hole in the roof.

This first time, look at the hole and click on it. Go down the stairs to the balcony under the clock face and get your new star holder.

Go back into the Clockworks Room and spend another star to send Mickey back through the clockworks and out onto the roof again (no need to set the time this time around).

Back on the roof, click on the rope, then spend two stars on the lighting rod. Mickey will cross.

Bell Tower

Go up to the bell to get a bell tower souvenir. Go down the stairs and into the tower.

Here you see a mirror piece, but it's out of reach. Go down the spiral stairs, then turn right around and go back up. You'll have to push the A button rapidly as Mickey is running up, and he will propel himself up the wall and catch that mirror piece.

Go back down the stairs and through the door at the base of the tower.

Storeroom

Here there is a castle souvenir and some stars. Pick them up.

Enter the cage and go down the stairs. Cross to the barrels at the other side and look at them. This leads to an easy minigame to get more stars, and there is no penalty for failure. You have to do it once to get the can, but it doesn't matter if you do well or not. Anyway, pick up the can.

Go back up the stairs and out the door opposite the cage.

Holy Hallway

Cross the hall and go through the door on the other side. Cross the room and take the star holder from the fireplace. (This room always has lots of stars for refill purposes.)

Go back out into the Holy Hallway. Click on the hole and examine it. Mickey will gear up for a running jump; you have to depress the A button rapidly to get him across. If you fall in, no big deal; you'll just be put back in the same place to try again.

Go through the double doors at the other side of the hole.

Broken Stairs Room

Save here!

Click on the red-and-white pole and spend two stars on it to get Mickey poised for a pole vault. After he begins his run, you will get a very short opportunity to spend two more stars on the pole again to ruin Mickey's jump. If you don't make it, reset and try again. Otherwise it will take you a lot of time and effort to get back here again; once up the broken stairs you cannot go back down again and must repeat the whole clock tower/bell tower/rope procedure.

Anyway, if you are successful, you will break down the bathroom door instead of going upstairs.

Bathroom

Click on the bath faucet to move Mickey to the right position, then click on the star holder that's in the water. Mickey will examine it at length, then you get a chance to spend three stars on it. Do it, and Mickey will go swimming after the star ... but too late! A fish swallows it before Mickey can get to it.

Click on the bath faucet again and wait a couple seconds until you can examine the fish. Use the can on the fish.

When you leave, you'll be back in the Broken Stairs Room.

Broken Stairs Room

To get up the stairs this time, you can either spend a star on the pole vault (but don't do the second "trick" to skew the jump) or run up the broken stairs with quick-A-button-depression action (which doesn't cost any stars). Pick up the new star holder. Go through the double doors.

Library

Head over toward the right side of your screen. Pick up the magnifying glass.

See the key at the top of the rightmost bookshelf? Save, then click on it. Spend two stars on it, but the ghost takes it!

Watch where he goes, then examine the bookshelf where he disappeared. You have to do some more A-button mashing to shake the ghost loose. Watch him again and then examine the second bookshelf where he disappeared. Do the shaking-loose thing again. This time he will drop the key. (For me, both times I played, the first bookshelf was the one at bottom left of the screen and the second bookshelf was the one at top right. I'm unsure if this randomizes, but I don't think so.)

Head down the way Mickey's facing after he automatically picks up the new key, and go through the locked door.

Music Room

Here you can spend four stars to play the pink electric guitar and do a minigame where you can get lots of stars for little effort. It's probably not worth it; just do whatever floats your boat. It's easy and your stars will get refilled even if you have no talent. Furthermore, next time it will only cost one star to play the game.

Cross the room and exit the other side.

Go up the stairs and into the attic.

Attic

Pick up the windmill souvenir.

Click on the pink box that's on the table near the window to shake out the teeny ghost. Use the magnifying glass on it, then spend three stars on it. Mickey will shrink and fall through the hole in the floor onto the piano in the ...

Music Room

... and knock down another mirror piece. Pick it up.

Go back out into the room with the attic stairs but this time just unlock and leave through the other first-floor door.

Fishbowl Room

Click on the fishbowl. Successfully execute three sessions of A-button mashing and the fish will flip a ball out of its bowl. Pick it up.

Click on the fish bowl again and use the can on it. The new fish (from the bathtub) will spit out the star holder. Pick it up.

Go through the door to the right of the screen.

Cupboards

Click on the pink cupboard and spend a star on Mickey. Repeat, then you have to do A-button mashing and thumbstick-twiddling to knock down another mirror piece. Pick it up.

Click twice on the potted plant to get a flowerpot souvenir.

If you click on the other pink cupboard and spend a star on Mickey, he'll do a magic trick. (This is not required to complete the game.) If you do it one more time, you'll get a little funny thing.

Leave the room and go through the door on the other side of the fishbowl.

Living Room

Pick up the remote from the coffee table. (If you like, you can go back to the TV room and use it on the TV to watch a short, cute old Mickey Mouse cartoon and play a dancing minigame, but neither of these is required.)

Save here, then click on either the couch or the chair to put Mickey to sleep. A bee comes in through the open window. Click on Mickey repeatedly, with the pink finger cursor, until he gets up and moves and the bee follows him. Click on Mickey repeatedly again, and then a third time. The bee will dislodge a mirror piece from under the window box. Pick it up.

Unlock and leave through the door next to the clock. You will be back in the Many-Doored Hallway.

Head toward the bottom of the screen, then exit through the lower left door. Cross the Two Stools Room and you'll be back in the upstairs of the X Marks the Spot Room.

X Marks the Spot Room

Look at the hole second-closest to Mickey. The X should be centered underneath it. Use the ball from the fishbowl on the hole. You'll get another star container. Go down the stairs and pick it up.

Wrapping it Up

Leave through the door, back into the kitchen, back out into the Plain Hallway, up the foyer stairs and out through the double doors into the Alpine Picture hall.

Click on the Alpine Picture and use the magnifying glass on it. Go back to the Kitchen and open the refrigerator and spend three stars to begin a snowboarding minigame. At the end you will be in the Alpine Picture hallway again.

Look at the portrait across the hall from the Alpine Picture. Spend two stars on it. Look at it again to dislodge the ghost, who will drop the final mirror piece. Pick it up.

Return to the room on the other side of Mickey's mirror, either by walking all the way there or by going through a blue spiral door. When Mickey enters the room, he will have to choose between the ghost and the mirror. Choose the mirror to finish the game, or choose the ghost if you want to stay in the dream and do some more minigames or something.

Miscellaneous Notes

  • If you have to walk the rope between the clock tower and the bell tower more than once, you can get the balloon souvenir the second time.
  • If you have all of the mirror pieces and return to Mickey's bedroom, you will get the ghost souvenir.
  • If you wait through the credits at the end of the game, you will get an option to save a "clear game." If you accept, you can look at all of the souvenirs in Mickey's bedroom.
  • There are other souvenirs available in the game. A complete list of the souvenir items and their locations is available here.
  • The first time I played through, I managed to find all twelve star holders. Danged if I can remember where the last one was this time, though. If you find the one that I missed, please email me and I'll add it to this walkthrough.
  • Once you get the big central piece of the mirror, you can return to Mickey's bedroom anytime to end the game, but you will not get the ghost souvenir or the post-credits "clear game" bonus.
